UN observers are placed in Srinagar as mandated by UN resolution which inter alia states that Pakistan shall vacate the territory and people of whole J&K will decide b y vote whether they wish to remain with India or go with Pakistan. Till Pakistan vacates the territory illegaly occupied by it UN observers will report violations on the line of actual control.

Pakistan has not and is not likely to vacate the territory occupied by it. Jammu and ladakh region are not likely to vote for Pakistan. Pandits of kashmir have to be allowed to vote. Illegal settlers in Pak occupied kashmir have to be defranchised. Its a long drawn process. 60 years have passed with the impasse. There is no military solution. Hurriyat inspired or Pakistan instigated leaders can not change previous UN resolutions. World body is not likely to amend its resolutions through terror. The exercise is futile and is a cheap method to gain publicity. Lasting solution can be found through peaceful talk. The problem and the solution are both political.
